Character information.
• Character name: Marcos Diaz | Eclipse
• Canon: The Gifted
• Canon point: 2.10; end of episode
• Age: 27
• Canon background: Wiki
• Abilities: Absorption and manipulation of photons. Aside from created bright flashes of light, he can blind people permanently, create lasers capable of welding temperatures, and absorb the light in an area, shrouding it in darkness. Unfortunately, he does have to absorb photons from a light source to charge up, and he can run out of juice between times of light. His blood glows and burns on contact.
Oh, and he's a damned good welder, and bilingual.
• Strengths:
Loyalty: While distrusting of outsiders, Marcos is fiercely loyal to his friends, willing to make great sacrifices and do questionable things to keep them safe. This is especially true of Lorna and their daughter, Dawn, even going to far as to go behind her back to work with former allies and kidnapping and torturing people. He would do anything to make sure his people are safe, even if that means making them hate him. That loyalty does have its limits, though, and it also applies to himself. While he's willing to do anything for his family, he doesn't want to do it at the cost of making the world at large hate them more than they already do.
Relentlessness: Hand in hand with his loyalty, Marcos is relentless in his protection of others, often mindless of his own safety. He's willing to take bullets for and give blood to others who need it, even if it's far more than he should, he's willing to work with terrorists, and to bend his own allegiances to assure people are safe. This does include temporarily blinding even his closest friends if they're being self-destructive, and laying some harsh truths of people if they need to hear it.
Devotion: After being abandoned by his family, he's wanted nothing more than to find his place in the world, and now that he's found it, he will do anything to protect it. He believes wholeheartedly in their goals and will do anything and sacrifice anything for it. He's also selfless and kind, hating the things they have to do at times to ensure people are safe.
• Weaknesses:
Uncompromising: Arguably Marcos' greatest shortcoming is his unwillingness to compromise once he's set his mind to something. His devotion to his ideals can lead to a dogmatic adherence to it. Because of this, once he's set his mind to something, he has a tendency to believe himself to be in the right, and it becomes increasingly difficult to convince him otherwise.
Short-tempered: While capable of diplomacy and reason, he loses his patience quickly and can act irrationally once he's lost his temper. He enters a mindset of rash decisions without really thinking about the long-lasting ramifications of them. This does, at times, include using his abilities to burn people or...threatening to blind them to get what he wants from them.
Emotional: Tied to the above answer, when people he cares for are in danger, he has a tendency to drop all semblance of morality and just do what needs to be done to make them safe. That includes offering to abandon his mission in life to be with his family to spite it going against everything he believes in, and accepting going back to his position of hit man and torturer for the cartel he left behind to assure Lorna and the others were provided for and safe. He makes foolish decisions as well, such as sending out a signal to get Lorna's attention and giving away their position at the same time.
